Great Grandpa

All photographs copyright Maria Neels 2004
This has no news value for anyone but people in our family, which is a good enough reason for me to post it.

So many people wouldn't think to take photos at a funeral but I truly believe that we celebrate our lives together...all the good and all the bad. The truth is, on Thursday, we got together to celebrate Grandpa's life and everything he gave us. Even though it was sad, it was a chance for us to rejoice in all he gave us and to remember what a good person he was.

Jim and I went to visit Great Grandma and Grandpa in October on our way home. Grandpa and Jim talked the whole time about the Cubbies and discussing how far they really would get:).

Here is Grandpa Huckaba putting bunny ears on Great Grandma- he looks like he wouldn't cause trouble but you never know with him.

This is a pretty cool picture of mom and the two Great Grandmas. How lucky we are to have had so many grandparents in our life for so long....most people never get that chance.

Another day in the city

All photographs copyright Maria Neels 2004
On Father's Day, Jim and I headed down to Navy Pier since, although we have lived here for two years, we had never visited. I love this city because you always run into unexpected things.

I think my favorite, was watching the "silver" men walking to work. These guys dress up in a ton of makeup so people can't tell if they are statues or real and they usually move very slowly, so much so that you have to stand there for awhile before you realize they are moving. Of course their City of Chicago permits give away the fact they are real. I hear they make good money doing it.

This prayer booth is designed to look like a telephone booth, but upon closer inspection, you see there is a kneeler that folds down and a list of instructions on how to pray.....interesting.

This was just pretty. It was a perfect day to be on the lake and sailboats were everywhere. It kind of made me feel like I went back in time, however, when the four sail boat went by.
